Welcome to Kindness Matters

Welcome to Kindness Matters, where we believe that everybody should have the chance to pursue their potential in life - in both success and happiness.

As a non-profit organization committed to accessible mental health care and personal development, we create and run programs that aim to help people achieve a strong sense of self and meaningful success in life. Our hope-based approach views every person as capable of greatness, while recognising that many people face real and varied barriers in pursuing it.

These barriers may include economic challenges, mental health struggles, skills and education gaps, or simply difficulty believing in oneself. Our approach is designed to help people overcome these challenges by building on their strengths while intentionally filling in the gaps.

Sometimes people need counselling and other mental health support to fully enjoy the good that already exists in their lives. At other times, people need practical skills to externally build their lives and improve their environments and opportunities. Our rounded, holistic approach addresses both the individual and the environment they are living in.

We also understand that people are part of families and communities, and that growth happens with others rather than in isolation. No person exists alone. We are here to become part of a person’s world in a way that allows them to empower themselves, rather than be dependent on support.

Our job - and our privilege - is to believe in people while they learn to believe in themselves, and to help them develop strategies and access resources that make their most empowered future possible.

Join us in building a community where no one underestimates anyone.
Together, we can foster enough hope, compassion, and understanding to create real transfarmation in the lives and well-being of real people.

Life is not meant to be survived - it is meant to be lived.
Let’s make that possible.

Our Initiatives

Keep Sex Workers Safe

Kindness Matters is committed to promoting the safety, dignity, and human rights of sex workers in our community. We recognize that sex work is shaped by broader social, economic, and health-related factors, and that meaningful support must respond to these realities.

Our work ensures that sex workers have access to compassionate, non-judgmental services that respect autonomy and lived experience. All programs are designed in collaboration with sex workers, ensuring they are relevant, empowering, and grounded in real needs.

Our mission is to provide inclusive, harm-reduction-based services that enhance the wellbeing, safety, and opportunities of sex workers. We advocate for their rights, challenge stigma, and work to amplify sex workers’ voices in policy, services, and community spaces.

Our Approach

Kindness Matters follows a harm-reduction, person-centered, and rights-based approach. We do not judge or coerce. Instead, we listen, support, and empower. Sex workers are experts in their own lives, and their voices guide our work at every level.

Get Involved

We welcome collaboration with community members, service providers, and allies who share our commitment to safety, dignity, and equality. Volunteers, donors, and peer advocates play a vital role in sustaining and strengthening our programs.

Outreach & Volenteer Programme

In our outreach work - Kindness Matters see's mental health support as a basic necessity in the modern world. Especially in South Africa, where our nation has seen so much hurt that continues to impact people on a daily basis.
That being said, mental health support often has barriers to access that make it unreachable for many.

By combining mental health support with practical pathways to stability and self-sufficiency, we believe individuals can build confidence, self-worth, and a sense of fulfilment. While we cannot reach everyone alone, we are committed to helping as many people as possible through collaboration with caring organisations and communities. At our core, Kindness Matters is guided by togetherness, adaptability, and the belief that kindness helps, kindness heals, and truly matters.

Mental Health

At the core of Kindness Matters, we care about mental health. Our founders have all faced significant mental health challenges, ranging from addiction and eating disorders to traumatic experiences and major depression. It was through the pursuit of a life of fun and meaning, in the wake of these experiences, that we met and developed the friendships that grew into Kindness Matters.

Yoga

Research, as well as the wisdom of the ancients, shows us that there is a powerful mind/body connection that impacts personal wellness. The founders of Kindness Matters all take some joy in the exploration of this connection through different means. From physically finding it in skateboarding or rock climbing, to mentally and spiritually exploring it through meditation, prayer, and art, mindfulness has influenced us as people and as an organizational in intricate, introspective, and incredible ways.
